STEAM
I can design and create a habitat.

During our class on Steam Day 1, we read the book The Commotion of the Ocean! After we read the book, we had a short conversation about the ocean and what is all in it based on the book. At the end of our first day we separated different animals and objects in a human and ocean habitat. On Steam Day 2, we reread the book and talked shortly on it. Next, we split up into small group and began our activity. Before we started I asked the children, What was in the ocean?, What kind of plants do you find?, and What is the ocean mainly have in it? Then we started our activity! We began with a clear plate and added sand and blue and green rocks. Then they added a couple animals and a plant to finish. To top the tambourine we used another clear plate and hot glued them together. Then we played our tambourine to a cute ocean video.

Why be a Teacher???
I get asked multiple times a week what made me want to be a teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher since my junior year in high school, for three reasons. First, I became a student teacher and helped the kindergarten classes during P.E. and in the afternoon as they where finishing the day. I was lucky to sing and dance with them as they learned to sing. I had the opportunity to intervene in the disagreements between students and solve problems peacefully. At times, I was in charge when the teachers had meetings or needed to leave early. During this year, I fell in love with the class I had and the role I played. Then, knew I wanted to do more than just help a teacher! Secondly, I grew up in the classroom with my mom! She has taught Special Education for about 30 years. I loved helping her with folder games and creating different lessons! I remember so many good memories setting up her classroom and spending hours during the summer at the school. My favorite thing was helping my mom find themes and decorate. Thirdly, I had a terrible experience in the 4th grade. I could tell horror stories about the year I had. The worst thing I left with was a dislike of reading. I never wanted to read after the fourth grade. Since reading is such a huge deal, I struggled because I did not have the want to read because of my dislike for it. After this, I knew I wanted to be a teacher that changed lives not hinder them. I wanted children to fall in love with learning. Now, since I have started the program I can see my dreams coming into play. I cannot wait to have my own classroom and be a great teacher.
